Week ending July 13, 2008:
Chloe asks: Why do people say “Cat got your tongue?”? I googled for some theories and found the usual array of horrifying answers at http://ask.yahoo.com/20061102.html. Luckily Chloe got bored and moved on before I was done with my search.

This week we went to Dutch Wonderland. Usually I report how well behaved my children are at these places while I see children all around me throwing fits. Well, karma caught up with me this time and it was my kids throwing the fits. Chloe got over-hungry twice during the day which led to two long bouts of crying. Alex had two incidents of screaming angrily at the top of his lungs, the first time while pushing his sister and the second time was directed at me. Both times I made him take a break from rides for about 5 minutes. I hate to punish the kids while they are at an amusement park, but I also don’t want to give the message that acting that way is ok. Other than those 4 problem times, the day was great. The kids were really brave about the rides and grinned from ear-to-ear much of the day. Both twins are just over 42 inches tall which put them into a new height category at the park and allowed them to get on some new rides. http://picasaweb.google.com/constance.phelps/DutchWonderland2008

Also this week we went to Natalie’s 4th b’day party. There were 21 kids there in the 0-6 year range, but the party was managed very well and went off without a hitch. There was a pirate theme with prizes for pirate costumes in both the adult and child pirate categories. I waited until 8am the day of the party to do anything about costumes. Alex has a pirate costume that he got as a xmas present, but Chloe didn’t have anything, so we dug into our supply of hand-me-downs and rigged a costume. It was so easy to do and the kids had so much fun with it that I was inspired to dig into my own past-their-prime clothing to make my own costume. In the end, I won a bottle of very nice rum for my efforst and Chloe told me she was very proud of me even if I hadn’t won.
